About Me -I live in Bradenton (Manatee County), Florida, with my wonderful wife Kim. We love Florida living and try to enjoy as many natural wonders and attractions as time will permit. We moved here in 2003 after 25 years in New Jersey. I’m originally from Eagleville, Pennsylvania, where my parents raised three boys. I graduated from Methacton High School with the class of ’72. If you are one of my high school friends, I hope life is treating you well! I studied electrical engineering at Florida Institute of Technology and the University of Delaware, earning BS and MS degrees. I then began a 23-year career with Bell Labs, AT&T (the now extinct “Bell System”), and Lucent Technologies. After 7/13/2001 I held positions with Computer Task Group (CTG), Ringling Museum of Art, Custom Manufacturing and Engineering (CME), Ceridian, Pinellas County Government, and currently with Manatee County Government.
Career – I currently serve the citizens of Manatee County in the IT and Public Safety departments as an information technology (IT) project manager. This is interesting and diverse work which continuously challenges the intellect! For more information about my career I invite you to review my LinkedIn profile page. I am a certified project management professional (PMP). Other past certifications include Scrum Master, CMMI, ITIL.
Family – Kim and I were married in 1983 and have a talented daughter, Victoria. She graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2016 and is currently employed in New York City with an interior design firm. I have two younger brothers: Arnold (living in Maryland) and Alan (living in Pennsylvania). Arnold and his wife Sunny have a son, Alex who is in the Air Force. Alan and his wife Donna have three children: Stephanie, Christina, and Eric. Steph and Tina are married and work in Pennsylvania, and Eric now works in Pennsylvania as well. My mother, Pauline, and my grandparents are deceased. My father, Walter, lives with his wife Mae in Pennsylvania. Kim has an older brother and sister, Reed and Sheila. Reed lives with his wife Sue in Hawaii and Sheila lives in Florida about 90-minutes from us.
Hobbies – Woodworking is something I’ve enjoyed for a long time. Photos of my completed projects are on my LumberJocks pages. Currently I’m a member of the Florida Westcoast Woodworkers club and a former member of the Sarasota Woodturners club. In 2020 I sold most of my power tools and have cut back significantly on woodworking projects. Computing is another pastime that I find interesting and fun. I capture many of my computing journeys on my WordPress blogs: general personal computing, Lenovo S21e laptop, Chromebook, Windows 7-inch tablet, and Linux Mint. Bicycling is much more fun in Florida than it ever was up north because of the weather. I’ve got a 30-year old Giant Gold Coast 6-speed cruiser-style that is still going strong. The tires, rims, grips and pedals have been replaced but everything else is original. One of my favorite bike routes is through the beautiful Robinson Preserve to the Manatee Avenue bridge to the Manatee Beach Park and the beautiful Gulf of Mexico. Good exercise!
More Recently –
In 2019 Kim and I decided to downsize from a large home in Hawthorn Park to a condo in Palma Sola Bay Club. We bought
the Key West floor plan, made some upgrades,
and moved in during August, 2020. Much of our time has been
consumed by the move and related activities. I started documenting condo projects. Also, I've been
taking sunset
photos.
Social Media – The best way to reach me is email. I have a page on Facebook but have largely abandoned Facebook except for an occasional drop-in visit. I routinely review my feeds on Twitter and Instagram. Google has designated me a “Level 6 Local Guide” on Google Maps because of the reviews and photos I have submitted of places I’ve visited. At least one of my photos on Google Maps has over a million views, which I find amazing and amusing.
